A memorable experience

On my short sojourn in the enchanting Dooars ,I had a wonderful experience which I feel like sharing with everyone. In upper Samsing we had put up at a 'Homestay' with a Nepali family comprising the host, his wife, three sons (two of them adopted), an aged mother,an even older, severely demented aunt, four dogs, a host of hens, chicks, pigeons and a tank full of fish ( not meant to be consumed). What attracted my attention was a hole somewhat jutting out of a corner of the ceiling above the entrance to the otherwise impeccably maintained, spic and span house. On being asked what it was, the lady ,with a charming and warm smile said that it was a swallow's nest which existed there long before the ground floor was renovated and thrown open to tourists along with their own living room and kitchen. They had taken extra care to keep the nest as it was, without plastering that particular corner. What was even more surprising was the fact that they had kept four glass panes open without glass so that the birds don't face any hindrance flying in and out of the nest and the house. The swallows fly off to some unknown destination for five months every year but come back again, without fail.I was deeply touched by this apparently "small"and inconsequential gesture ,and was left wondering how deep the bonding between man and nature can be where the motto can only be " live and let live"........./
